The mission of the Museum of Journalism and Graphic Arts is to feature a permanent collection of historical objects related to the media and put on display the evolution of the graphic arts. In this museum, you can find rooms dedicated to the graphic arts, a pre-press room, a printing room and a binding room. Housed in the building that tapatíos recognized as "house dogs", the museum  where "The American Clock" -- considered the first independent newspaper in America -- was printed.

The Raul Anguiano Art Museum is located in Guadalajara and accommodates modern and contemporary art. The Museum of Paleontology of Guadalajara opened February 14, 2000, and is located in the back of the Parque Agua Azul. The museum features a large sample of central western Mexico’s Pleistocene megafauna. It is the result of decades of work by engineer Federico A. Solorzano Barreto. A tour of the museum allows you to have an overview of paleontology and learn about prehistoric fauna and flora of the state of Jalisco. Among the most important findings of recent years is the gomphothere, found in Chapala in 2000. It is one of the most comprehensive in the world this proboscidial skeletons.

Upon entering, you will be amazed by the neoclassical architecture and the 57 murals painted by the painter Jose Clemente Orozco. With 23 patios, it is Guadalajara’s favorite venue for important ceremonies and inaugurations. The institute, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, offers guided tours, temporary exhibitions, an onsite museum, conferences and workshops for painting, drawing, dance, photography, sculpture, and printmaking.

Regional Museum of Anthropology and History

Since 1918, the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History has housed archaeological objects, including historical artifacts, indigenous collections, religious objects, historical and paleontological collections including the skeleton of a mammoth. The art collection includes colonial art of the 17th and 18th centuries, European paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries, modern paintings, Mexican frescoes and a mural by Jose Guadalupe Zuno dedicated to remembering the conquest of New Galicia by Nuño de Guzmán.

The Museum of Arts features a permanent collection which consists of 33 works by talented  local artists. Various works of art have been donated to the museum including a painting that belonged to Julio Cortazar. The building houses two of the most important works of the Mexican muralists Jose Clemente Orozco, the murals "Man Creator and Rebel " and "The People and their misleaders ".

ARCHITECTURE

Temple Expiatorio

A Neo-Gothic style building built from 1897-1972, the facade is marked with three porches decorated with reliefs. The central bell tower topped by a cross and its interior consists of three ships, one central and two lateral.

Government Palace

Built by Manuel José Conique and Nicolas Enrique del Castillo, between the 17th and 18th centuries, this Baroque style building with a Doric gate, has large windows and beautiful balconies.

Degollado Theatre

Built in the mid-19th century, this theatre became home to recitals, concerts, and classical and contemporary dance performances. Its construction is ornate neoclassical style, influenced by an Italian theatre in Milan. Its vault has frescoes by Gerardo Suarez and Jacobo Galvez alluding the fourth canto of the Divine Comedy The theater’s porch is made 16 columns and its facade is coated with quarry and a relief mounted on marble with the image of Apollo and the nine Muses.

Guadalajara Cathedral

Built in the early 19th century, this cathedral is the city’s most iconic landmark. It presents varying architectural styles including Gothic with nine altars and three chapels inside. You can see the second largest organ, with French origins, in Mexico.
